Terry's Tales  (Click Here for Presidents's Archives

The business end of the season is well and truly upon us.  This brief report outlines events for the next few weeks.

Last night (Thurs 18th) our Div 1s won the 20/20 final defeating Wests 8/75 with Westies all out 61 (inc 7 runouts)..Brownlow will expand on same.  Well done lads, great fielding effort after slow start with the bat.

Grandfinals this weekend for the Div 1s (Albecht) and Div 2 (Larapinta) in 2 day games, starting just after 8am both days. Get down and support our future.  Good luck to all concerned Jonesy Div1 and Charlies Div 2.

Next weekend is the senior GFs with all A B and C grades straight in.  Training as usual Tues and Thurs, with sides announced mid week.  Obviously some blokes are going to miss out with our good depth of numbers, but we are ALL one and i'm sure everyone concerned will be in total support.  Good luck to all.

Unfortunately our ladies team went down in a tight semi final last night and are out of the race. They have been very competitive all year and the closeness of the semi was a reflection of same.

This Sunday (21st) from 12.30pm the presentation day for all junior grades is on at the Telegraph station..BBQ and softies supplied.  Brownlow has done a great job in organising this event, so the more the merrier , all senior players are welcome and encouraged.

Easter Sat is the senior presentation night at the memo...a sit down dinner affair...promises to be a great night as usual so put in your diaries and don't forget.  More details coming.

For those who are interested after the Memo celebrations on the Sat 27th , upon conclusion of the B and C grade grandfinals, Choppers at Stegar Rd will be open.  If you want to bring a swag on Sat morning or whenever feel free, and more importantly more piss.  I will supply breakfast and i'm sure Guv and other assorted loonies will supply entertainment.  NO A graders allowed...they hopefully will be in a winning position ripe for us to venture there and celebrate another victory.

Overall , MRCC has a perfect opportunity to create history being represented in all GFs from Div 2 to A grade. We have already put the 20/20 Div 1 and 50/50 A grade silverware on the shelf and how awesome would it be to add another 5...certainly a great incentive to all.  History is there to be made gentlemen.  Remember we are representing this great club,  we have excellent high numbers of sponsors aboard, and we don't wont or expect to deal with any unsavoury behaviour.  Have fun and enjoy a special fortnight.

Happy cricketing and best of luck to all.

Cheers
Weeksy

PS If you are interested son Harry is performing very well in school cricket in Adel, playing in the first 11, (only one of two grade 10s in the squad) and has taken 4 for 14 , three times in the last 4 weeks, including 17 overs 9 maidens two weeks ago in a two dayer.  Not getting much of a bat but working on that.  Pissed off though he couldn't be part of last nights and this weekends Div 1 finals,  but Shit happens.

For those that missed Presentation Day last Sunday it was a great day with around 120 in attendance at the Telegraph Station, it was a great opportunity to thanks and reward the players for their contribution to the MRCC for season 2009-10, it was also good to show appreciation for those that have assisted us throughout the season.

Congratulations to Division one Premiership winners in the Twenty20 and 2 Day competition.  Well done also to Division 2 on making the grand final, we have a very committed team with a lot of potential.

A Grade - Blayne's Babble

B Grade - Scotta's Scoop

Round - GF!!!!!

With the pressure on to make it four from four for the B Grade, we entered the Grand Final with a team that had served us well all year: Myself, Ruddy, Nollsy, Dusto, Whitts, Nivvo, Dougy, Redders, Jonesy, Patto, Fitzy and 12th man Caney.

As they say in the classics, "Runs on the board in a GF are Gold".... Someone forgot to tell Westies that, as I lost the toss, and they sent us in!

I'm sure that there was an ulterior motive there, but we couldn't figure it out, so in we went to get some gold. Wests were made up largely from their B Grade side of all season, with a couple of notable additions from the A Grade. An unfortunate finals runs saw their B Grade the only team in the GF, and some creative player swapping the week before had left them no choice.

Mick and Fitzy got us under way, and provided Westies with some catching practice. Apparently they weren't very good at it though, and managed to drop 7 catches off these two! Mick eventually given LBW for a well compiled 25. Nollsy came and went for 6, before Fitzy and Matt steadied the ship. Fitzy eventually falling for 34, when he missed one. Dougy chimed in for a patient 8, and Ruddy made a quick 3, and we were staring down the barrel at 5 for 109. Redders joined Matt, and they put on another 20 odd before Matt was gone for 43. Dusto made a quick 0, then Redders fell for 19. I managed a picket fence before being bowled for 5, then Jonesy followed the very next ball. All out 156. Not the best total we could have hoped for, but we were on the board. I must thank Wests for helping us to this total, as at the close of the innings, they had dropped 12 catches!!!!!

Cheers
Scott

C Grade - Ditchy's Dribble

Grand Final day finally arrived and the Memo lads were primed and looking to make short work of the Federals blokes and consolidate a great season.

Flynn Drive resembling Traeger Park in size, thanks to some interesting mowing of the boundary line by Scott Allen and his band of merry men.

The coin went up and I called heads and down it came, heads up, in we go for a bat to set a formidable target and test the depth of the Federals batting line up.
Gaz and Pies got us underway and Pies joined us all back in the pavilion shortly thereafter when he fell to the Nixon/Hunter combination and we were 1/8. Woodsy returned to the line up and looked the goods until he slipped over after being sent back on a quick single and was caught short, 2/26. Gaz had one slip through the defences and all of a sudden we were 3/26! Enter C Murphy and Ty Daniels. A 61 run partnership filled with ones and twos, and the odd boundary, got us to 97 when Murph found the fieldsman off Duncan’s bowling for 34 and the total on 4/97. Jake Wilson stayed for a short while which saw him smash one off Duncan for 6 but was no match for the wily old stager in Chris Day who was dropping the ball on a dime and trapped Jake adjacent the wicket LBW, 5/106. I joined Ty and he exited the arena caught behind for a well made 34, 6/111. I followed him back holing out to Edney off Duncan, 7/112. Juddo didn’t bother the scorers and S Murphy was CD’s fourth victim. Weeksy and Mick put on a couple more to get us to 121 when Cd snared Terry advancing down the wicket and collected his fifth. Rovers C grade reduced to the paltry total of 10/121. Chris Day ripping through the middle order taking 5/8. C Murphy and Ty top scorers with 34 each and not much else from the rest of us.

121 seemed like 170 given the size and pace of the outfield, and Feds with a real chance to upset the short priced favorites, according to the Advocate.

Big Mick and I shared the new cherry and while not getting a breakthrough, created some half chances and applied the pressure with some tight bowling. A great catch by Gaz at second slip saw the end of Chris Day and Bluey Filmer trapped in front LBW saw us put apply the screws on the Feds lads and have them 2/11 after 8 overs. The dangerous Richard Black got caught in a mix up and C Murphy delivered the ball to S Murphy which caught Blacky short and with the score on 3/17 after 11, the job was all ahead of the boys from the East. Woodbury and Weeks got us to the drinks break with another wicket when Woodsy had Duncan caught by big Mick. 4/37 in the 18th. Woodsy finished his over after drinks with the wicket of Ericsson and Big Mick came back to shatter the stumps of semi final match winner Quin. 6/46 and not much left in the sheds except some young blokes and Squirt, and Sam Day at the crease watching them fall at the other end. Mick removed Nixon and Weeksy lured Sammy Day out of his crease after being pounded for 6 on the previous delivery, George tossed one up S Murphy accepted the stumping chance and whipped off the bails. 8/59, Feds chase all but over. Squirter lasted 2 balls and the Murphy lads finished them off, combining to remove Dusty Hunter and wrap it up. Feds all out for 60 in the 26th over.

A huge defence of a small total saw Myself 2/7, Big Mick 2/14 Woodsy 2/15 and Weeks 2/21 share the spoils with the ball. Ty a chanceless 34 and Life member Murph 34 were the only real contributors with the bat. The fielding was the best I have seen and Ty Daniels excelled in this area. About time he realized his full potential in the field. Ty was also adjudged best afield by Life Members Colbey and Trindle and awarded the miniature bat signed by the team.

In closing I would like to thank all the players that represented us throughout the year in the C grade, each one of you contributed in some way to getting us to the premiership we have been waiting to claim for the last 3 seasons. A couple of players worth mentioning for their contributions include Mick Betteridge and his 30 wickets, Terry Weeks with 23 wickets, Ty Daniels with 306 runs, Craig Murphy 286, Gaz Vanstone 282 and Dave Woodbury 248. I was lucky enough to finish the year with 24 wickets and 209 runs and of course, hoist the premiership shield aloft for the mighty MRCC.

Congratulations to Blayne and the A graders, and Scotta and the B grade for their success and to young Dukey and the Div 1 lads for getting us the clean sweep of the top four grades of cricket in the ASCA.

Why would you play elsewhere??

Ditchy.

Jaiden Harman unlucky, lbw for 9. A middle order collapse saw us 7/116. Along came Chris Tickoft 18, and Liam Blakley 29 n.o., putting on a 38 run partnership in 6 overs. Next came Darcy Thornton with a quick 3. Lucky last Liam O'Ttoole at 11years old faced 6 balls for 0 n.o.
First time this season we have batted for the full 48 overs.

The 5th wicket fell on 73, then a procession - 6/92, 7/103, 8/103, 9/104. Then came on Liam O'Toole at the northern end. He had a catch dropped, then 3 balls later, cleaned up the stumps. Wests 10/111 Liam 1/5, Harmo 1/26, Jonny Akash 1/25, Ticko 1/19, Smitty0/17, a good effort all round.
