WE WON !! 8/150 vs 9/139
After our best training session for the year on Tuesday .. only training session from most blokes, we were keen and ready. Huby generously organised a feed at the nets after training courtesy of the Chifley Resort kitchen... mussell pots, prawns, barra, calamari and a few beers. Someone asked "What happened to a good ol sausage sizzle?" .. but only 1.
Everyone arrived early on Saturday to make sure we were all relaxed and warmed up. Bluey lost the toss and we batted. Head (0) was out second over to a legal full toss - 1/1. Our two youngest .. Ty and Brendan then steadied things before Ty (16) was gone after just starting to look solid 2/43 moving on to 2/52 at drinks after 18 overs. Brendan (34) out soon after drinks to CD .. that'll be 1 x carton for the boys thanks Wizard.
Drakey (Screw #2) and Ben (Fed copper #1) upped the rate scoring at a run a ball for the next 10 overs. Ben (31) finally caught in the deep soon followed Huyby (1) stumped in what must have been a close call. Drakey (48 .. choker!) out in the 34th over after a match saving innings. After giving Renz a wrap in the paper, he caused great mirth when run out for a DIAMOND duck by ol' mate Weeksy (3) , who himself was gone without adding to our score. Shattered perhaps .. self sacrifice - who'll ever know? Stuie (4*) finally connected on the last ball of the game and innings closed on 8/150 .. Bucks 0* and me not required.
We got off to a solid start when Gav Mc was bowled trying to put me passed the boundary (again, it must be said in fairness to balanced reporting) and Bucks got the dangerous Poppa lbw to see them 2/12 in the 5th. A change of bowlers to Head and Ben brought no joy with wickets but scoring was being well held. Eventually Wizard got the break through .. a match turning catch from Renz in the gully. He dove forward and across and grabbed it with 2 hands and Keys was gone for 25. Drinks soon after with the game seemingly balanced at 3/60 .. but we felt on top.
Soon after another "magic moment" with Head fielding at mid wicket. He swooped on the ball and looked up to see the batsmen taking on his arm. Some year 10 physics helped him calculate that he would get to the stumps before the batsman (who carries a bit like me) could make it to the line. With arms pumping and knees up like the steel springs in Gallipoli he took off and smashed the stumps down with the ball still in his hand 4/66!
Steve E hit some big balls as expected before Head (2/30 of 7) bowled him for 20 and quickly followed up with another caught well by Stuie, 6/114 (followed by 3 wides and a no ball!) Weeksy had bowled a couple of overs but one loose ball an over was despatched so he took himself off with 0/14 after 2. Bucks (2/21 off 7) got their skipper (2) and before they'd scored I'd (3/36 off 7) bowled CD (32) who was looking our only danger and Mark C caught behind for a duck. 9/122 and all that was left was Quiny and Jack Anstey .. who can play but isn't yet big enough to hit the boundaries they need. Innings closed 9/139 and let the celbrations begin!
Thanks to the 40 players who participated in C grade this season and especially the juniors who stepped up to fill in and contribute. Its had its moment ... but Saturday made it worthwhile.
cheers
