C Grade - Round 1 - 22/10/11

We got to play our first C grade game at St Philips .. a picturesque tree lined ground that isn't very big and was very fast.

Lester was roped in for a game and I offered him the Captaincy as an  incentive ... despite trying to decline he called the toss correctly and we batted.

Murph, still telling stories of his recent trip to Vietnam, walked out with Head and spent the first over getting louder and more frustrated as every shot went straight to a fielder.   Head went cheaply and Murph fair belted one at the kid at mid-on ... and he snatched it in.   Renz got a start before another unexpected catch was held.  Dusto went for a walk out and back, Stuie and "welcome back" Jeffro went down swinging.  All the while, Lester was putting in a Captain's knock playing great shots all over the ground before finally being dismissed for 70. Our tail comprised the "Lambley lads" , young Harry plus father and son combo, Paul and Bill. All frustrated the bowling .. Bill playing his "hoik to leg" with abandon and getting a great boundary, Harry also playing shots and Turtle doing what he could.  All out 178.

Feds batting didn't look like it was too deep ... but unfortunately we never got to find out!   With the small fast outfield, John Gaynor made use of the field restictions and knocked up a quick 50 before Renz suggested "Well, let's just play cricket" - and Murph bowled him next ball.  So that's where we were going wrong??  Richard Black was risking a few shots but went on to make an unbeaten 71 after he worked out we couldn't catch a cold .  1/140 at drinks they retired a young fella for an old fella and despite some great bowling from the young Lambley's they got the runs . Harry flighted them up without fear and will inevitably get wickets soon. Bill charged up the hill and finished with 0/24 of his 6 .. tightest bowling of our side.

We hoped it would end on a high when the batter lifted one back over Bill's head and in the near vicinity of Dad Paul. With no thought to his own safety (or those around him), the Turtle leapt into the air and flew with arms outstretched.  Most of you in the country probably felt the landing .....

Have a read of Scotta's B grade report please ... We need more blokes so please ask mates to come and join in ... it can be a bloody fun day!

cheers
