What an amazing and great couple of weeks of finals these have been!
We finished the season in third place ... and that's about where we deserved to be. After a difficult year in all grades getting numbers on the field it finally came together and Smithy nearly started a game with 11! A huge acknowledgement to Ben Russell, who after losing the Div 1 semi agreed to play the A grade semi the same day because we only had 10.
Day one of the Semi against West was washed out .. a common occurence this season, and no turf could be prepared for day two so the Association movded the game to Head St for a one day match. Short story but we were rolled for 76 and it didn't look too good. In the end , that was too good and we rolled Westies for 55, yes ... fifty five runs on hard wicket!
Grand Final week was clear and Traeger was prepared so A grade could finally get a two day game on turf. Our boys made 143 in 61 overs. Dougie 20, Scottie 30 and Capt'n Smith doubling his aggregate with a captains knock of 41. It too didn't look like it would be enough.
After 8 overs Federal werre 3 for 7 overnight and wondering what happened. First over of the next day and they were 4 for and the crowd were cheering. Blayne and Woodsy went through them like the proverbial hot knife through butter and after 25.4 overs they were all out for THIRTY FIVE! Blayne 13 overs, 6 maidens 5 for 16 .. Woodsy 12.4 overs, 7 maidens 4 for 16 .. the other wicket a direct hit run out by Tom Clarke.
Feds naturally enough sent us back in and Doug was gone early but Lowie and Blayne destroyed their year putting on a great display before they finally conceded (for the second year in a row) when Blayne was caught on 36. Lowie not out 25 .. MRCC 2 for 71 and PREMIERS!.
Congratulations to SMithy and the boys .. 20 wickets for 90 runs in 2 weeks. We'll talk about this for years.
