President Update - 7/3/11
Greetings all
Its been a long time between drinks for the pres report update, but better late than never mum keeps telling me.
Only one week of minor round before the business end is upon us. Been a very tumultuous year on field with the rain resulting in washed out games and schedule reshuffles. Not to mention the very kind act of others who decided to destroy four pitches one Friday night. What's the point? Anyway , moving on....MRCC will again feature in the finals system in all grades, with actual fixtures yet to be decided...albeit Guv's C grade side are straight through to the GF already. All other sides will play off in the semi finals so the weekend of 19th and 20th of March is most crucial for our continued on field success. I know all skippers and their lieutenants have a quiet confidence that we still have much bigger fish to fry. To those of us that have been piss poor attendees at training it is less than 3 weeks to GF day ...so lets make a concerted effort , do yourself and teammates a favour, and get involved. We will have a few beers after training on the thurs before the semi final weekend at the Memo whilst sides get selected...put it in your diaries.
Off field the social events have been down on numbers as compared to previous years . I have attended all and can personally vouch for the high fun level. Xmas show was unfortunately hammered by the lack of any cricket to watch, although our junior juniors displayed some great skills with their boundless energy. The jolly fat man in the red suit duly arrived in the fire truck much to the lynch mob of very happy kids. Thanks Lambs, Renz, Ditchy, the ladies on the food, BBQ cooks and everyone else who put a great event together. This event grows every year...seems like love is in the air...or somewhere.
Our sponsors never let us down and last Fri , the hierarchy, captains and committee entertained over 20 of our sponsors, with only a handful missing. I thought the first of these events last year would be hard to top but as Tommy Smith would say when comparing his legends Kingston Town and Galilee "By josh, its very hard to separate these two great horses ". The food was sensational, beer and wine plentiful, the raffles, stories and the occasional massage of the truth dominating events, and judging on the comments over the next few days , a great time was had by all. A BIG thankyou to Andrea and Cilla of the Memo....the setting , food , service etc were first class. A second big thankyou to Cilla . She won the signed Glen McGrath ball , raffled to raise money for Pink Stumps Cancer research. Cilla very kindly donated the ball back..and the process of ticket selling recommenced. Thanks again on a very generous gesture. Check out our new revamped website with all sponsors featured on same. Thanks to Neil from Redback Productions for the excellent work in creating the new site. Check it out.
The juniors are into semifinals this week with grand finals or last days the weekend of the 19th/20th. The junior presentation day is at the Telegraph station on Sun 20th from about 1pm onwards....keep posted or speak to your sons coach.
The senior pres night is the next weekend after the GF...Sat 2nd April...again this is a must show......at the Memo. Keep peeled for more.
Good luck to all players, supporters, and sponsors for the entire finals series. We have another excellent opportunity presenting us with all sides poised for a final tilt. Lets bring home plenty of silverware....it looks good in our trophy cabinets, and the beer tastes so much better.
Happy cricketing
