For those that are unaware, our B grade couldn’t field a side on Saturday and was required to forfeit the match.
This from the club has won 11 of the past 15 senior grade grand finals, and yet cannot field two sides at the start of the season - Why?
Is it a lack of interest until later in the season when finals are possible, is it “someone else’s” problem, is it a situation of “I’ll put my hand up when I want to play”, is it “I only play one grade”? What ever it is – it’s bloody embarrassing and a punch in the face to those who are putting in the time and effort to get players on the park.
None of us involved in the weekend will want to hear “I would have played if I knew you were so short” …. Put your hand up and offer before you’re asked , because it becomes a real drag each and every week. Scotta had spent Thursday night to Saturday morning making over 100 calls and text messages chasing blokes, and was understandably extremely upset at the outcome. Charlie is doing the same for A grade, our Div 1 team played with 8 kids on the weekend .. 3 of whom backed up for A grade (if you know of any young fellas please let me know) and C grade starts this week.
We all have other commitments throughout the season and perhaps this was just a case of a busy weekend, I hope so, but if not I trust this is a wake up call to all “fair weather” players that we will need 33 blokes each and every week to help be part of the club … not just three teams, but part of the CLUB.
See you at training Thursday night.
